Henry Burris, Bo Levi Mitchell nominated for CFL most outstanding player
Ottawa Redblacks quarterback Henry Burris and Calgary counterpart Bo Levi Mitchell are the finalists for the CFL's outstanding player award. Burris registering a CFL-record 481 completions and league-high 5,693 passing yards while Mitchell was second overall in passing (4,551).
QBs finish 1-2 in passing yardage
Quarterbacks Henry Burris of the Ottawa Redblacks and Bo Levi Mitchell of the Calgary Stampeders are the finalists for the CFL's outstanding player award.
The league made the announcement Thursday after voting by the Football Reporters of Canada and the nine CFL head coaches.
Burris was instrumental in leading Ottawa (12-6) to a first-place finish in the East Division, registering a CFL-record 481 completions and league-high 5,693 passing yards.
Mitchell, the MVP of last year's Grey Cup game, was second overall in passing (4,551) as Calgary (14-4) finished second in the West Division standings.
The other nominees include:
- Linebackers Adam Bighill of the B.C. Lions and Simoni Lawrence of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (defensive player)
- Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive lineman Jamaal Westerman and Ottawa Redblacks receiver Brad Sinopoli (Canadian)
- B.C.'s Jovan Olafioye and Ottawa's SirVincent Rogers (lineman)
- Calgary Stampeders kicker Rene Paredes and Hamilton kick-returner Brandon Banks (special-teams)
- Receivers Derel Walker of the Edmonton Eskimos and Vidal Hazelton of the Toronto Argonauts (rookie)
The CFL will honour its top performers Nov. 26 in Winnipeg.
