Defensive end Ricky Foley was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, according to a report.

The Seattle Times reported the transaction involving the 29-year-old Canadian, as NFL teams had to pare down to 75 players on Tuesday.

Foley was tied for the CFL in 2009 with 12 sacks while a member of the B.C. Lions. He earned the league's top Canadian player award for his emergence, helping to fill the void after Cameron Wake left the Lions to sign with the Miami Dolphins.

Born in Courtice, Ont., he played his collegiate ball at York University.

Foley will be able to sign with any CFL team should he find no takers for his services elsewhere in the NFL.
