Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo was unanimously chosen Wednesday as the CFL's offensive player of the week after leading the Alouettes to their first victory this season.

Calvillo joined some elite company in the Alouettes' 29-20 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday night at Ivor Wynne Stadium.The veteran pivot threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns.

He also became just the fourth passer in league history to surpass 50,000 yards, joiningDanny McManus, Ron Lancaster and Damon Allen.Calvillo also passed legend Doug Flutie to move into fifth place on the all-time touchdown list with 271.

The Toronto Argonauts grabbed the other three awards after their 48-15 dominating performance over the Calgary Stampeders last Thursday:

  • Safety Orlondo Steinauer, named defensive player of the week, snatched three interceptions.
  • Linebacker Michael Fletcher, who took the special teams nod, had a tackle on special teams and blocked a punt in the third quarter that led to a touchdown.
  • Kevin Eiben, named top Canadian, had four tackles, two fumble recoveries and one interception.
