Bombers ink QB Jyles, release Bishop
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed free-agent quarterback Steven Jyles on Tuesday and also released veteran Michael Bishop.
The six-foot, 195-pound Jyles spent the last two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders but played sparingly. He completed 25 of 40 passes for 290 yards and a TD last year and completed 42 of 61 attempts for 533 yards and four touchdowns in 2008.
Prior to joining the Riders, Jyles, 27, spent two seasons in Edmonton, primarily as a backup to incumbent Ricky Ray.
"We're very pleased to add depth to the quarterback position," Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice said in a statement.
The six-foot-one, 215-pound Bishop joined the Bombers on July 26, 2009. He finished 204-of-405 passing (50.4 per cent) for 3,035 yards with 15 touchdowns but also threw 20 interceptions as Winnipeg (7-9) finished third in the East Division standings to miss the CFL playoffs.
The team also announced they have also released quarterback Casey Bramlet.
