Blue Bombers replace Taman
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have found a replacement for Brendan Taman, who served in many capacities with the club over 10 seasons.
John Murphy will replace Taman, who was appointed player-personnel director after the 2008 season and left the club earlier this month.
"[Murphy] possesses the skill sets and contacts to develop a systematic network which will meet the needs of our club in the near and long term," said Bombers president Lyle Bauer. "His experience and enthusiasm will pay great dividends."
Murphy spent last season as director of scouting for the Grey Cup-champion Calgary Stampeders.
Based in Texas, Murphy has an impressive resume. He spent two years as a scout with the Montreal Alouettes and worked with the NFL's Oakland Raiders. He joined the Stampeders in 2007.
He has also served on the selection committee for the East-West Shrine Game since 2003, and served as a coach in the East Coast Bowl all-star game that includes top U.S. college players.
Two years ago, he was inducted into the Minor League Football Hall of Fame. Murphy is also the executive vice-president of the NFL Draft Bible.
Taman spent five years as the Bombers' general manager. Considered an expert at spotting raw CFL-calibre talent, he brought several key players to the Blue Bombers, including Charles Roberts, Gavin Walls, Tom Canada and Dan Goodspeed.
Argos re-sign Flemons
Elsewhere in the CFL, the Toronto Argonauts have re-signed defensive lineman Ron Flemons through the 2010 season and released veteran offensive lineman Andrew Greene.
Flemons spent two seasons with Toronto before being dealt to Saskatchewan following the '07 campaign in the deal for quarterback Kerry Joseph. He returned to Toronto prior to the start of the '08 campaign, appearing in 11 games.
Greene, a 10-year CFL veteran, signed with the Argos in September 2008 and suited up for seven games. He spent the 2007 campaign with the Blue Bombers.
