Argos' Bishop out 6-8 weeks with wrist fracture

Toronto's easy win over the Calgary Stampeders on Thursday came at a cost, with quarterback Michael Bishop on the sidelines for up to two months.

Bishop suffered a fracture in his right wrist during a run in the third quarter of the team's 48-15 win. He was to undergo surgery on Friday, with atypical recovery time of six to eight weeks, according to theteam.

The injury comes as a blow to Bishop, who was being given his first chance to run with the starter's job. The 31-year-old had thrown for seven touchdowns and 595 yards, with just two interceptions, in nine quarters of play.

The developmentat least temporarily staves off a brewing situation at quarterback. The Argos were carrying three healthy quarterbacks itching to play, including longtime starter Damon Allen and Mike McMahon.

While McMahon has seen action in the last two games, it's not known yet if coach Mike Clemons will choose the erstwhile NFL quarterback over the veteran Allen, who started the team's opening game loss to British Columbia.

Toronto also has Eric Crouch on the roster, though the former Heisman Trophy winner is on the injured list.

The Argonauts next play on July 21, in Calgary (CBC 7 p.m. EDT).
