Dawn Coe-Jones to retire from LPGA

Dawn Coe-Jones of Campbell River, B.C., confirmed Monday that she will retire from the LPGA Tour at the conclusion of this season.

Dawn Coe-Jones is keeping her golf clubs in the bag to concentrate on being a hockey mom.

Coe-Jones, from Campbell River, B.C., confirmed Monday that she will retire from the LPGA Tour at the conclusion of this season.

The 47-year-old revealed her plans as she prepared to compete in the Canadian Women's Open at Ottawa's Hunt Club — her final pro tournament on Canadian soil.

"I'm filled with both happy and sad emotions," Coe-Jones said. "I have had the pleasure of doing what I love for over 20 years.

"It has been an honour to represent Canada. It is a dream career, and I will miss it very much.

"But I'm looking forward to new adventures with my family. I love being a hockey mom."

Coe-Jones has missed most of the season because of a broken foot.

She has played in just one LPGA event, shooting rounds of 83 and 79 in failing to make the cut at the Ginn Tribute, hosted by Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam.

Coe-Jones won three LPGA tournaments — the 1992 Kemper Open, 1994 Palm Beach Classic and 1995 Tournament of Champions.

She ranks 45th all-time on the Tour's money list with $3,315,477.50 US in winnings, and was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame on July 7, 2003.

Coe-Jones and husband Jimmy have a son, James Jr., who turns 13 in October.
