Dwane Casey confirms he will return as Raptors head coach
Coach says Toronto president Masai Ujiri gave assurances he would be back
Dwane Casey confirmed on Wednesday that Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri gave him assurances he would return to the Raptors next season as head coach.
In his year-end press conference, Ujiri spoke of a "culture reset" which included a different style of play for the Raptors, leading many to believe those changes would begin with firing of the head coach.
When asked about it on TSN Radio, Casey said "I think people mistook Masai's comments. We had a good meeting, and we've had meetings since then."
"It's not like we were in total chaos or anything like that. It's just good to have roles defined and things we can do better...I think that's good for us, and also for any corporation around us to have a culture reset."
Casey will return to the Raptors as the fourth-longest tenured head coach in the NBA, trailing Gregg Popovich, Rick Carlisle and Erik Spoelstra.
He has led Toronto to a franchise-record four straight playoff berths.
