Canada's Wiggins expected to sign $148M deal this week
Former No. 1 pick will get max contract from Minnesota Timberwolves
Canada's Andrew Wiggins will reportedly sign a five-year deal this week worth the maximum $148 million US with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Vertical website reported the 22-year-old from Vaughan, Ont., is expected to put pen to paper before training camp opens Saturday.
The contract is not unexpected, but comes after Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor admitted earlier this summer that he wanted to gauge Wiggins' commitment to the organization before investing so heavily.
The No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft, Wiggins' scoring numbers have improved in each of his first three seasons. He averaged 23.6 points per game and shot 35.6 per cent from 3-point range last season, more than 5 per cent better than his previous season. But the Wolves have not made the playoffs since 2004.
