Shooting Stars thump BlackJacks to earn franchise's 1st CEBL victory

NBA veterans Jalen Harris and Xavier Rathan-Mayes helped lead the Scarborough Shooting Stars to their first-ever franchise win as they defeated the Ottawa Blackjacks 98-81 on Thursday in CEBL action.

Scarborough (1-2) endured some second-quarter struggles before rallying in the second half to cruise to the win. The Shooting Stars outscored the BlackJacks 55-41 in the second half, led by Harris and Isaiha Mike, who each scored 17 points. Rathan-Mayes chipped in with 16 of his own on 5-of-8 shooting.

Scarborough Shooting Stars defeat Ottawa Blackjacks 98-81 for their first CEBL victory.

The Shooting Stars had no one off the bench record double-digit points but rapper J. Cole had 3 points on 1-2 shooting from three in just over four minutes of play.

Ottawa (0-3), meanwhile, was led by Deng Adel who had 18 points, while Walt Lemon Jr. added 17. However, shooting played a key role in the loss as they converted just 30 per cent from three, while Scarborough managed 42 per cent.

The Shooting Stars host the Hamilton Honey Badgers on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Blackjacks, meanwhile, will head to Newfoundland to play the Growlers on Sunday at 3 p.m. NT.

Honey Badgers dominate Nighthawks

Christian Vital had 17 points while Nikola Djogo added 16 as the Honey Badgers cruised to a 103-85 blowout win over the Guelph Nighthawks.

Hamilton (2-1) got out to a 33-15 lead after the first which was good enough to hold off Guelph (1-2), who did make the game closer. In the final three quarters, the two teams each scored 70 points but the disastrous first quarter was too much to overcome for the Nighthawks.

Hamilton beats Guelph 103-85 as Jeremiah Tilmon claims the Elan Ending.

Off the bench, the Honey Badgers got 13 points from Keenan Veiont, while forward Jeremiah Tilmon added 14. No other player on Hamilton had double-digit points.

As for Guelph, they were led by Car Barber who dropped 25 as he continues to be an offensive force in the CEBL. Ahmed Hill and Sean Miller-Moore - off the bench - both had 16 in the losing effort.

The Nighthawks will play the Montreal Alliance on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET.
