Inner-ear infection keeps 1st baseman out of weekend series

Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins has been ruled out of this weekend's three-game series against Kansas City due to lingering effects from a right inner-ear infection.

The first baseman from New Westminster, B.C., was scheduled to see an ear, nose and throat specialist on Friday in Minnesota.

Morneau, who had missed three straight games entering Friday's matchup at Kansas City, was advised against travelling.

The 2006 American League MVP will be re-evaluated on Monday, though the team doesn't expect Morneau to go on the disabled list.

Morneau, 28, had trouble with dizziness from his ear problem since last weekend and left in the fourth inning of Monday's game against Texas.

Morneau is hitting .298 with 28 home runs and an AL-best 94 runs batted in.

The Twins entered Friday's action third in the AL Central Division, 6 ½ games behind first-place Detroit.
