A Tampa Bay Rays player faces multiple charges after leaving the scene of an accident that seriously injured a man on a motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

FHP said 26-year-old Matthew Brian Bush was driving south on U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte Thursday afternoon when he struck the motorcycle driven by 72-year-old Anthony Tufano.

After the accident, Bush drove north on U.S. 41. Multiple police agencies were notified and his 2011 Dodge Durango was located a short time later, the FHP said. Bush was arrested and taken to Charlotte County Jail. He remained in jail without bond on Friday morning.

Bush faces multiple DUI- related charges and counts of leaving the scene of an injury accident and driving with a suspended licence.

The arrest report indicates Bush has had previous DUI-related incidents in Arizona and California.

Tufano was taken to a Lee County hospital in serious condition. According to FHP, Tufano was run over by Bush's vehicle.

Bush is a pitcher in the Rays minor league organization.

The San Diego Padres drafted Bush with the first pick in 2004 and traded him to the Toronto Blue Jays in February 2009 after he allegedly assaulted members of a high school lacrosse team.

The Blue Jays released Bush three months later for failing to comply with team guidelines.
