Toronto Blue Jays' third baseman Josh Donaldson was chosen as Player of the Year, as well as the American League Outstanding Player in the Players Choice Awards announced by Major League Baseball Monday.

The awards, which began in 1992, honour American and National League players in four categories, including outstanding player, pitcher, rookie and comeback player as voted on by their peers. There are also three awards for players in either league: the Player of the Year won by Donaldson, the Man of the Year won by Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles, and Majestic Athletic Always Game Award which went to the Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve.

In a vote conducted in major league clubhouses in September, Donaldson was chosen ahead of American League finalists Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels and Nelson Cruz of the Seattle Mariners.

Houston Astros pitcher Dallas Keuchel was chosen ahead of Blue Jays David Price, while Keuchel's teammate Carlos Correa was named top rookie. Texas designated hitter Prince Fielder was selected as the Comeback Player from the AL.

In the National League, Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals was the outstanding player, while Zack Greinke of the Los Angeles Dodgers was named top pitcher. Rookie of the year honours went to the Chicago Cubs' Kris Bryant. New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey was chosen as the comeback player.
