Bautista turned down the Jays' one-year qualifying offer of $17.2 million US in November to explore free agency. The Associated Press reports the sides are discussing one-, two- and three-year agreements.
However, it appears the market has not been kind to the 36-year old, who spent the last eight-plus seasons in Toronto.
For the Jays, bringing back Bautista could help soften the loss of Edwin Encarnacion, who signed a three-year, $60-million US deal with the Cleveland Indians in December.
Bautista averaged 38 home runs per season from 2010 to 2015 but struggled last year while battling various injuries. In 116 games he hit .234 with 22 home runs and 69 RBIs.
My brother. Back where you belong. Couldn't be happier. Appreciate you for guiding me and always being real! <a href="https://twitter.com/JoeyBats19">@JoeyBats19</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/BlueJays">@BlueJays</a> <a href="https://t.co/4eJ6VyeNWW">pic.twitter.com/4eJ6VyeNWW</a>
