Jays' David Price will not pitch again in regular season
Expected to throw 1 simulated game before playoffs
David Price's regular season is over.
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons made that clear to a Toronto radio station on Thursday.
Gibbons said Price would not start another game until the post-season. The Jays clinched the American League East title for the first time in 22 years on Wednesday after defeating the Baltimore Orioles 15-2 in the first game of a doubleheader.
"He's well over 200 innings," Gibbons said of his star pitcher. "Hopefully he makes a handful more starts. We need him to be good and fresh when the games count."
Price was set to start on Thursday but was pushed back after Toronto secured the AL East title.
He's expected to throw a simulated game before he makes his playoff start on Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Rogers Centre.
Price has been everything the Blue Jays envisioned when they acquired him at the trade deadline. A leading candidate for the AL Cy Young award, Price went 9-1 with a 2.30 ERA, and 87 strikeouts in 11 starts with the Blue Jays.
