Blue Jays add lefty to 'pen in Darren Oliver

The Toronto Blue Jays signed left-hander Darren Oliver to a one-year, $4-million US contract Monday with a club option for 2013.

The option is worth $3 million.

The 41-year-old Oliver spent the last two seasons with the Texas Rangers, posting a 5-5 record with two saves and a 2.29 ERA over 51 innings last year.

Oliver has played for eight teams over his career, including three separate occasions with Texas.

The 18-year veteran has appeared 654 career games, including 229 starts, and has posted a 112-90 record and 4.60 ERA.

To make room on the 40-man roster, Toronto designated infielder Mark Teahen for assignment.
