Canadians leave Lima knowing they're ready to take on the world in 2020
The 2019 Pan American Games came to a close at Estadio Nacional on Sunday night, but not before proving that Canada is ready to take on the world at Tokyo 2020. 35 Canadian athletes and teams can now call themselves Pan Am champions, while 152 total medals were won by Team Canada in Peru.

Korey Jarvis scores freestyle wrestling bronze, but is building to something bigger
Canadian freestyle wrestler Korey Jarvis won a bronze medal on Saturday, defeating Peru's Andreus Gunning by a 7-0 decision at the Pan American Games. But the aim here for the 32-year-old from Elliot Lake, Ont., was always to build his momentum toward world championships, and book his place at the Olympics.

'A ticking time bomb': Brittany Crew breaks Canadian shot put record (again) for silver medal
Canadian shot put star Brittany Crew said she felt a bump in distance coming, calling it "a ticking time bomb." That blast finally went off at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, on Friday, registering a new Canadian record of 19.07 metres and earning her a silver medal.

Canadian equestrian jumping team makes leap from Lima to Tokyo 2020
Canada’s equestrian jumping team may not be leaving with a Pan American Games medal, but they still accomplished their mission in Lima. The squad of Mario Deslauriers, Erynn Ballard, Lisa Carlsen and Nicole Walker finished fourth in the team event on Wednesday, sealing a berth for Canada in that event at the 2020 Olympic Games.

Both athletes have hit the Olympic qualifying standards for the 2020 Tokyo Games, so the Pan Ams are a chance to put all their training and practice into competition. Warner's coach, Gar Leyshon, says events like the Lima Games are few and far between.

While the Canadian women's softball team is physically on the field in Lima, their minds are squarely in Surrey, B.C., where later this month they'll get their shot at getting back to the Olympic Games for the first time since 2008. For the team's veterans, the second chance has been more than a decade in the making and encouraged them to come out of retirement.

Canadian women's water polo team intent on Olympic qualification in Lima
The Canadian women's water polo team has a job to do at the Pan American Games, and so far, so good. Axelle Crevier and Shae Fournier each had four goals, and goalkeeper Jessica Gaudreault stopped two penalty attempts to lift the team to a 20-5 win over Cuba on Sunday. It's a big first win for a team that needs a big result in Lima to earn its place at the Tokyo Olympics.

That's the message after the Canadian men's field hockey team wrapped up their final preliminary match in the most crucial tournament of their Olympic cycle with a 14-1 win against Peru on Saturday. Next up is the knockout round, which is another step toward a gold medal, and a direct spot in the Tokyo Olympics.
Canadian sailors' childhood dreams lead them to Pan Am Games
