With the final day of the Olympics drawing closer, so does the Canadian Olympic Committee's decision on selecting its flag-bearer for the traditional closing ceremony on Sunday in London.
The COC certainly has a long list it can pick from:
- Christine Sinclair of Burnaby, B.C., led the women’s soccer tournament with six goals, including a hat trick against the U.S. in the controversial semifinal matchup. She sparked the Canadian team to its first-ever medal.
- Kayaker Adam van Koeverden won silver in the men's K-1 1,000m event, putting his career total at four Olympic medals.
- Rosie MacLennan of King City, Ont., has won Canada’s only gold medal to this point and has overtaken teammate Karen Cockburn as the best trampoline athlete in the nation.
- Diver Emilie Heymans of St-Lambert, Que., became the first Canadian in history to win a medal in four straight Olympics.
- Wrestler Carol Huynh, from Hazelton, B.C., increased her medal haul after earning a bronze medal in the women's 48-kilogram division to go with the gold she won in Beijing four years ago.
- Tonya Verbeek of Beamsville, Ont., concluded her wrestling career with a silver medal in the 55-kg weight class, adding to the silver and bronze she collected in 2004 and 2008, respectively.
All are worthy candidates.
