Dylan Armstrong's mom: 'I am so happy for him'
Judy Armstrong reacts as her son set to receive 2008 Olympic medal
I am very excited about this moment for Dylan.
David (Dylan’s younger brother) and I were in Beijing to see the Olympic Games and it was wonderful and very exciting to be part of this. The feeling sitting in a stadium of 91,000 people in the Birds Nest was amazing and when he was sitting in the bronze medal position. The little red Canadian flags people had were popping up all over the stadium and we were so excited.
I remember we were so emotional and then he was knocked out [of the competition] and we could not wait to see him.
Then the next day we met him at Canada House and they felt the measurement was wrong so Athletics Canada requested a view of the tape and Dylan had to go to see it. We felt excited and sad at the same time, however, he was so happy he had made a big breakthrough with 21.04 — throwing over 21 metres and setting a new Canadian Record. He felt the future would now change for him.
That he now will get this medal because of a doping infraction has been very much a celebration for us since we found out last March. We have lived in the anticipation of waiting to see when this day would come as we know it’s a long process with many organizations and people involved.
We are so happy to celebrate this event in Kamloops where Dylan was born and raised and where all the folks that supported Dylan from the early years and currently can witness this event. From family, friends, officials, former Olympians, coaches, sponsors, the media, the community that has followed him since he was a little boy can see the medal presentation first hand will be awesome.
I am feeling very proud of the hard work he has done to get here and the way he has put Kamloops on the map. I feel so happy for him.
