UBC journalism students share stories of the land and water

The relationship between Indigenous people and the media has been a rocky one, but a University of British Columbia course is working to change that.

Every year, students are sent out to various Indigenous communities in B.C. to gather voices, sounds and story.

Meet the Squamish fisherman who is determined to keep salmon going in B.C.. Emma Loy had a chance to meet with him and has his story.

Plus what you might not know about British Columbia. Much of the province is unceded territory. That means with a couple of exceptions, most of the land was never part of a treaty agreement. Various First Nations and the Government of Canada continue to negotiate "modern day treaties."
