Rosie and the Riveters' Farideh Olsen on the book that changed her life

The singer-songwriter is reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

Farideh Olsen, a member of the Saskatoon-based group Rosie and the Riveters, recently read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, and it changed her life. This interview originally aired on November 23, 2015.

This book is basically the handbook to minimalism. I love it because she asks you to go through all the things in your home and touch them and ask, "does this spark joy?" — which is life-changing because once you actually go through and touch every item in your house and ask, does this spark joy in you, you actually start wondering about the other elements in your life, are they sparking joy. I was in the last month of being pregnant and I really needed to nest and this was my handbook. I went through my home and touched every piece of  clothing, every fork and spoon, and I got rid of so much in order to make room for the bounty of my new child. It truly was a life-changing magic. I really recommend this book.
