Delegates in the room were stunned to hear the results.

They had voted 52 per cent in favour of a leadership race.

Speaking to delegates shortly after the vote, Tom Mulcair indicated he would stay on as leader until his replacement is chosen. Delegates voted to give the party up to two years to select a new leader.
