The future of Tom Mulcair and the NDP

This week on a special edition of The House, host Chris Hall travels to Edmonton for the NDP convention. On top of voting on the future of leader Tom Mulcair, delegates will also review what lead to the disappointing results of the last election, and debate where the party should go next.

This week on a special edition of The House, host Chris Hall travels to Edmonton for the NDP convention.

It's a busy schedule — on top of voting on the future of leader Tom Mulcair, delegates will also review what lead to the disappointing results of the last election, and debate the direction of the party.

We speak with NDP leader Tom Mulcair ahead of that contentious vote, as he prepares to make the case to delegates for why he should stay at the helm of the party.

Then, documentary filmmaker Avi Lewis wants the NDP to take one giant leap into new territory.

The signatory to last year's provocative Leap Manifesto has been working behind the scenes with NDP MPs to bring the radical document to the forefront of party policy debates this weekend. He joins us to make the case for why the New Democrats should take that leap.

MPs have plenty to debate in Edmonton, from the future of their leader to the next steps for the party as it looks to recoup its 2015 election losses. Saskatoon West MP Sheri Benson and Beloeil-Chambly MP Matthew Dubé are here to look ahead to the big topics dominating the convention.

In House panelists Laura Stone of the Globe and Mail and the Canadian Press' Kristy Kirkup also offer their take on the way things have been unfolding in Edmonton.
