CBC reporter goes behind the scenes in Japan
On The House midweek podcast, Chris is joined by CBC senior reporter David Cochrane, in Japan for his first overseas trip with the Prime Minister for the G7 summit.
"I didn't really know what to expect — I'm certainly not in St. John's, Newfoundland," the former political reporter from the Rock says.
"If you went on a plane with the premier, it was an eight-seater and the entire press corps and the premier's staff could fit on it. This is a little bit different. Just the sheer size and scale of it, the attention to protocol, the attention to rules. It's a fascinating experience."
Cochrane shares his behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in a world leaders' summit, from the scandal reporters have dubbed a second 'Watergate' to the Prime Minister's five-kilometre run around the Alaska tarmac during a refuelling.
Then, we respond to listener feedback asking for the down and dirty on clean energy — what do politicians mean when they use the term 'green economy'?
Chris Ragan, chair of the Ecofiscal Commission, and Erin Flangan, federal policy director at the Pembina Institute, talk about the logistics of how government can move towards a cleaner environment.
Finally, 'Elbow-gate' proved to be a controversial show for House listeners. Chris and House producer Katie Starr discuss the feedback we received.
