Madeline Redfern on Nunavut's electoral riding, largest in Canada

One-third of this vast land will send only three MPs to Ottawa after election day, in the great, white north. They have their own unique election issues and while they don't get much attention on the airwaves down south, we try to change that when we check in with a former mayor of Iqaluit.

It's incredibly important that who ever we elect really does connect with our community, understands our issues and represents us in Ottawa. Many people are complaining that for too long it's been an MP who has been representing the interests of Ottawa in Nunavut.- Madeleine Redfern, former Iqaluit mayor running in munipal election

It's federal election time in every corner of Canada right now.... but there is a huge swath of this country  which makes up more than a third of Canada's total area -- that will elect just three of the 338 MPs in Ottawa.

It's in the Territories in the North... which have their own unique issues. And, in the case of Nunavut, whomever is elected as MP will have the distinction -- and challenge -- of representing one of the largest electoral districts in the world.

Madeleine Redfern is the former mayor of Iqaluit. She is also running in the October 19th municipal election there. We reached her in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
