Inside Rob Ford's world, colleague John Filion shares his insight

"Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine" But no, do I, am I an addict? No. Have I tried it? Probably in one of my drunken stupors, probably approximately about a year ago...Yes, I've made mistakes. All I can do now is apologize and move on."- Then-Toronto Mayor Rob Ford admitting to smoking crack cocaine.

November 5th, 2013. A remarkable admission and a remarkable -- if surreal -- moment in the history of  municipal politics. 

Rob Ford was already-by-then the world's most-watched mayor, his antics and news conferences beamed into living rooms around the world. 

But there were those who had been watching his dizzying ascent to notoriety for years inside Toronto city council.

John Filion is a former reporter and longtime Toronto councillor. He's now sharing his unique perspective of the former mayor, in a new book titled, "The Only Average Guy: Inside the Uncommon World of Rob Ford." 

John Filion joined guest host Robyn Bresnahan in our Toronto studio.

We contacted Rob Ford's office to see if he wanted to comment on the book. We have not heard back.
