Mark Towhey, Rob Ford's old chief of staff, on chaotic life inside mayor's office
During the Rob Ford era, it seemed like a lurid new scandal about the mayor emerged every day -- any one of which could have ended another politician's career. And yet, today, Ford still holds office in Toronto, as a city councilor. Just this past weekend, he and his brother Doug hosted a rally for Conservative Leader Stephen Harper in Rexdale. The two men were photographed smiling, side by side, just blocks away from where the infamous "crack tape" was shot.
Two years ago, as revelations about Ford's drug and alcohol use emerged, Mark Towhey was there in the thick of it. At the time, Towhey was Ford's chief of staff. Now, he's telling his story.
"It was like living through a murder mystery where something happened, the lights go dim, come back up, and someone's missing and you had to try and figure it out," Towhey tells As It Happens host Carol Off.
Towhey joins Carol in-studio to discuss his newly released book Uncontrollable: How I Tried to Help the World's Most Notorious Mayor.
