Federal Election 2015: Vote switchers on changing party stripes

Elections Canada confirmed 3.6 million people took advantage of advance polls last weekend, underlining what Canadians are already feeling in the air this federal election. Today, we hear from 3 voters who are following the issues intently and are now ready to switch loyalties.
Are you a vote switcher because you're voting strategically, or because you like what you're hearing from a different party this time around? (Dean Hochman, Flickr cc)

This 42nd Canadian campaign is shaping up to be a historic one in many ways.

And it has many Canadians thinking about doing something they've never done before in their own personal voting history.

With polls tight, and much at stake, it appears plenty of voters will be changing their partisan stripes this year... leaving behind the party they may have backed for years, to mark their "X" in a different box this time around.

We brought together three such "vote switchers" to explain why.

  • Suhail Abulsameed has switched his support from the Liberals to the NDP. He was in Jordan today.
  • Alex Carmona is a conservative-at-heart but is strategically voting Liberal this time. He was in Toronto.
  • Rick Fuerst in Telkwa, BC has switched from voting NDP to casting his vote for the Conservatives.

If you're a vote switcher because you're voting strategically, or because you like what you're hearing from a different party this time, let us know what's informing your choice.
