7-old refugee calls Canada home but misses El Salvador
Seven-year-old Rebecca Canales, her 31-year-old sister Aurora, and their father Milton call Toronto home. Two years ago, they left El Salvador because their lives were in danger and made their home, a safe house. They share their story.
So far today we've heard the stories of children who have fled their home countries and made their way to Lebanon, Italy, and Greece, as refugees.
Of course, many children and families fleeing the world's most troubled zones, would dream of one day arriving right here in Canada.
The incoming-Liberal government has promised to open the doors to thousands more refugees, including many more children... and to expedite the process.
Our producer Julian Uzielli visited with a very young person, after school yesterday. Seven-year-old Rebecca Canales, her 31-year-old sister Aurora, and their father Milton, came to Toronto from El Salvador two years ago.
