Today on The Current

Alberta now has more COVID-19 cases than any other Canadian province. Premier Jason Kenney is expected to announce restrictions today, but he has not appeared publicly since Nov. 12. Matt Galloway discusses the implications for Albertan health and politics with Talana Hargreaves, whose family recently tested positive for the virus; Edmonton ICU doctor Darren Markland; and Kelly Cryderman, who covers Alberta politics for the Globe and Mail.

Plus, 5-year-old Julia Vegh has become quite the passionate amateur astronomer during the pandemic — and with telescopes selling out, she's not the only one. We talk to Julia, her dad Lou Vegh, and some other passionate astronomers about looking up and thinking big.

Then, we hear over and over again that the pandemic is a marathon, not a sprint. But can endurance sports teach us something about getting through this COVID-19 winter and the next round of lockdowns? We talk to Alex Hutchinson, columnist with Outside Magazine.

And, the Atlantic bubble has popped — COVID-19 cases are rising in the Maritimes. Matt Galloway talks to Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey and P.E.I. Premier Dennis King about the situation in their provinces.
