The Current for March 18, 2022
Today on The Current:
As the world keeps its eyes focused on Ukraine and Russia, one environmentalist says he has a plan to fight Russian President Vladimir Putin and climate change at the same time. Guest host Mark Kelley speaks with Bill McKibben, the founder of the grassroots climate campaign 350.org.
Then, Canadian Paralympian Brian McKeever was wearing bib number 16 when he crossed his final Paralympic individual finish line last weekend. It's the perfect number to mark his historic 16th Paralympic gold medal. He reflects on his record-breaking, 20-year Paralympic career — and the support he received from his brother along the way.
Also, we ended Monday's show with the sound of 94 violinists playing a Ukrainian folk song. After many listeners asked us about the music, we reached out to Kerenza Peacock, the soloist with London's Royal Philharmonic orchestra who brought all of those violinists together. We spoke to her and Canadian fiddler Carly Frey.
And we speak with Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly about what more Canada can do to assist Ukraine; plus our foreign affairs panel, comprised of political science experts Aisha Ahmad and Bessma Momani, breaks down what she said and the current geopolitical situation.
