The new musical Come From Away set around 9/11 and the generosity of residents in Gander, N.L. is scheduled to hit Broadway next year. The Current speaks to one of the playwrights Irene Sankoff on how the uplifting musical showcases the kindness of people.
On Sept.11, 2001, Gander, N.L., saw its population literally double overnight when over 6,000 passengers were stranded in the small town after their flights were diverted from the U.S.
Their story will fly onto the Broadway stage next year in a musical by Canadian playwrights David Hein and Irene Sankoff called Come From Away.
Irene Sankoff joined The Current's Anna Maria Tremonti to talk about the musical and the personal stories that showcase the kindness and generosity of Newfoundlanders.
