Anna Maria Tremonti's most memorable interviews: Malala Yousafzai

As her time at The Current comes to a close, Anna Maria Tremonti looks back at some of the most memorable conversations from her 17 years as the show’s host.

Malala Yousafzai was just 15 years old when a would-be assassin shot her in the head as she headed home from school in Pakistan.

She was targeted by the Taliban for publicly advocating for greater access to education for girls.

Yousafzai survived and went on to present at a global UN event, win a Nobel Peace Prize and found a non-profit organization.

Back in 2013 — just one year after she was shot — The Current's Anna Maria Tremonti sat down with Yousafzai in New York.

The Current's Anna Maria Tremonti speaks with Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani student and activist who was shot by the Taliban for her strong support of education rights.

"I came away from that interview feeling that there is an aura of other-worldliness around Malala. I don't think I've ever felt that before in an interview that I've done," Tremonti said of the experience.
