National Council of Canadian Muslims creates hate-crime tracker

Here on The Current, we've discussed how events happening around the world can affect Canadian Muslims in Canada.

With headlines about ISIS, Islamic terrorism and security  concerns dominating the news, sometimes Muslims find themselves on the receiving ends of Islamophobic comments and behaviour.

According to the latest Statistics Canada data from 2012, there were 45 hate crimes against Muslims and 242 against the Jewish community. But the National Council of Canadian Muslims, NCCM, a national Muslim civil rights organization based in Ottawa -  says a reluctance to report perceived hate crimes or incidences has led to under-reporting.

To change that, the NCCM has launched an online tool geared to help track, in real-time - anti-Muslim incidents and hate crimes.
