Lt. Gen. Whitecross reveals how CAF will combat sexual misconduct
Based on my consultations with members of the Canadian Forces, both victims of harassment and assault, and professionals who work to assist victims, I found that the creation of an independent centre to assist and support victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment is an essential step in rebuilding the confidence of members in their organization.- Marie Deschamps delivering report on sexual misconduct in the CAF
Retired Supreme Court Justice Marie Deschamps' report described a highly-sexualized workplace, a military with a misogynistic streak. And now, it's over to the military's highest ranking woman to implement the report's recommendations.
That person, is Lieutenant General Christine Whitecross. She became the first woman in the Forces to reach that rank, when she was promoted last month.
As Commander of the Strategic Response Team on Sexual Conduct, she has been visiting troops across the country since the Deschamps Report's release, to get their feedback, and share her plan.
She's sharing that plan with us today. Lieutenant General Christine Whitecross was in our Halifax studio.
