What to do about left lane hogs

B.C. says it will crack down on drivers who drive in the left lane: but how?
(Radio-Canada)

B.C. has promised to do more to stop drivers from hogging the left lane. There are no details yet about what that might be, but on this week's show we take a look at a few ideas from south of the border.

Last year in Georgia, the legislature passed a new law referred to as the "Slow Poke Law." Drivers found lingering in the left lane can face fines as high as $1000, or one year in jail.

Representative Bill Hitchens, who proposed the law, says it's about courtesy: "I always thought it was good manners your mama should have taught you, when somebody comes up behind you, you just move out of the way."

And in Washington State, troopers made an educational video, to ease the frustration caused when drivers stay in the left lane.

It remains to be seen what B.C. will do to change behaviour. What would you suggest? Send an email to the180@cbc.ca
