Can we, and should we, learn to love how we use natural resources?
It's the eternal debate: we need natural resources to fuel our economy and our lives. It's the eternal debate: we need natural resources to fuel our economy and our lives.
But what is the cost, and what is the value, of extracting oil, coal, natural gas and other natural resources from the Canadian landscape?
Answering that question is no walk in the park. But we asked Tzeporah Berman and Stewart Muir to give it a try. Tzeporah Berman is a long-time environmental activist who is a strategy consultant for a number of campaigns against oil sands development, pipelines and climate change.Stewart Muir is Executive Director of Resource Works.
His group is a non-profit that hopes to get people talking about the economic benefits that responsible use of resources can bring. So you can imagine the two found a lot to talk about as they headed to Vancouver's Crab Park for a walk and talk. We asked them to come with their best arguments, and a few questions for each other. You can listen in on some of their conversation on this week's show.
