Many urban centres have binners — people who collect recyclable material from garbage bins. They help divert a lot of waste in our cities, but remain marginalized and stigmatized.

Michael Leland has been binning for over 10 years. He's now a member of the Binners Core Group for The Binners' Project, a Vancouver initiative dedicated to improving opportunities for binners.

Check out this video featuring Michael Leland.

Anna Godefroy is the Director at The Binners' Project. She talks about the importance of reducing the stigma binners face by recognizing their work as the city's recyclers.
