Musical Youth's Mike Grant shares how the song Pass the Dutchie changed his life
In this q Oral History, Musical Youth's keyboard player Mike Grant shares the history of Pass the Dutchie, and explains how the song isn't actually about drugs at all.

Senator Jim Munson wanted to bring some levity to the Cannabis Legalization Senate debate, and quoted the Musical Youth track Pass the Dutchie. That song was a huge number one in the '80s, and one appropriated as a sly ode to weed in a less wide-open musical culture. In this q Oral History, the band's keyboard player Mike Grant tells us the history of that song, what it was like to be at the centre of a rapid rise and fall from fame at a very young age, and how Pass the Dutchie isn't actually about drugs at all.
