Ta'Kaiya Blaney on Kayak to Klemtu, and the power of blending art with activism
Ta'Kaiya Blaney was just 10-years-old when she started writing songs about environmental issues and how they impact Indigenous land.
Now at 17-years-old, she continues to spread that message through film as well. You can watch Blaney taking on the lead role in a new movie, called Kayak to Klemtu. It follows Ella, an Indigenous teenager, as she paddles for miles to protest a planned oil pipeline.
Just like the music Blaney has been making for years, this film blends art and activism. In fact, Ella's story mirrors a lot of Blaney's own life. Today, Blaney joins q guest host Laurie Brown live from Vancouver to talk about the film.
Kayak to Klemtu comes out next week on Tuesday, August 21 on video on demand.
