The Beaches aren't exactly what they look like. Yes, they're a four-woman rock band who dress in 1970s vintage clothing. Yes, they're all in their early 20s, and yes they've just been nominated for a Juno as the breakthrough group of the year — but most of the band has been together since middle school, so they've already accumulated years of experience playing, recording and touring together.

The Beaches recently released their debut album, Late Show. It's full of original, catchy rock songs. The band dropped by the q studio to perform three songs from the record and sit down with host Tom Power to discuss how the album came together and how the music represents who they are and what they stand for.

Below, watch The Beaches perform live in the q studio.
