Sometimes, songs can come out of very tough situations, and for Montreal singer-songwriter, Amélie Beyries, a beautiful track named "Soldier" came out of the toughest time in her life.

While battling breast cancer, she tells Tom Power that the piano was "soothing for me to play, and some lyrics just came out."

The result was that song, which she then shared with a friend. From there, a ball got rolling. Now, Beyries has put out a full-length album called Landing. It was a scary process for her to release this music to the public, but she's glad she did it, adding: "We tend to protect ourselves and that okay, but when you get it all out, it's very touching."

And since going through two bouts of cancer, music may be a big part of Beyries's life but she has gained a lot of perspective on things. "I always just tell myself it's only music," she says. "To put that into perspective helps a lot."
