'It's really hard to make raw pork look good': Director Domee Shi on the making of her Pixar short Bao
If you've moved out of your family home to go to college or get a job, then you'll know that leaving isn't easy, no matter how ready you are for a change. If you're a parent yourself, then you'll know it can be even harder on the people we leave behind.
Pixar's newest short film, Bao, really captures that idea. It's about a Chinese Canadian mother who gets a second chance at raising a child when a dumpling she makes comes to life. The short film is directed by Domee Shi, the first woman ever to direct a Pixar short.
Shi joined Tom Power in the q studio to talk about the ideas in this film, and how they come straight from her own childhood home in Toronto. You can see Bao in theatres before Incredibles 2 starting on Friday, June 15.
