Adam Sturgeon of the London, Ont.-based band WHOOP-Szo is getting a lot of attention right now for the honesty, power, truth and beauty of his songs.

On WHOOP-Szo's new album Warrior Down, Sturgeon explores the intergenerational trauma he feels in his family and in the wider Anishinaabe community. It's a powerful and harrowing record that raises issues like missing and murdered Indigenous women, police brutality, residential schools and more.

Sturgeon dropped by the q studio to talk about WHOOP-Szo's new album and to perform some special stripped-down acoustic versions of their songs. Warrior Down is out everywhere right now and WHOOP-Szo will be heading out on an international tour soon.
