Don't let the white sheet fool you: A Ghost Story is a serious film about death and the passing of time

When you think of ghosts, you might think of the friendly sort, like Casper, or maybe the mischievous kind, like Ghostbuster's Slimer. Or perhaps your mind can only conjure the downright terrifying spectres like the Woman in Black.

A new film is bringing a whole different feel to the ghost story genre. David Lowery's A Ghost Story is less about things that go bump in the night and more about what's left of us after we die.

And this one is clad in the oldest ghost costume in the books — a white sheet. That's right, just like the Halloween costume with two holes for eyes. The ghost in question is a man who dies but comes back to haunt the house he and his wife lived in for years.

Today, Lowery joins guest host Ali Hassan to discuss how a simple white sheet helped him create a quiet meditation on death, time and grief.
