How Lido Pimienta found freedom in music
For Lido Pimienta, music means freedom.
"It was my voice, it was my escape," the Colombian-born (and now Toronto-based) artist says, of when she first started making music. "Living in Colombia, you have to really be sure and love your identity, so music just gave me a space where I was embraced for being myself."
And being herself is exactly what she has continued doing. Last year, she released her second full-length record, La Pepessa. The title translates to the "High Priestess," which is a card commonly used in tarot. To Pimienta, that means "to concentrate and focus, and have knowledge on your lap; to not have anything distract you from your goals."
On today's show, Pimienta sits down with host Tom Power to discuss some of the songs from her latest album and how she has grown and changed over the past few years.
