Kyo Maclear draws inspiration from her kids' music teacher for first graphic novel

Somewhere in the universe, there is the perfect tune for you. If the right song finds you at the right moment, it can really shape the person you become, especially if you're in an impressionable phase of your life. 

Kyo Maclear is a Canadian writer who believes in this idea so strongly that she's made it the focus of her first graphic novel for young readers, Operatic. It's all about finding the perfect song that gives you a sudden flash of identity.

Maclear joined host Tom Power live in the q studio to talk about writing from the perspective of young people and why opera is the perfect soundtrack for growing up.

Maclear's first graphic novel is called Operatic and it's out now.
