The cover of Women's Running typically features a slim, sculpted woman — but this month the fitness magazine has attracted much praise for taking the road less travelled.

Proudly plus-size model Erica Schenk graces the cover of the August issue, racing toward the words "3 reasons your weight doesn't matter". "I don't feel like I need to hide myself," says plus-size model Erica Schenk, who graces the August cover of Women's Running magazine. (James Farrell/Women's Running Magazine)
