Director Mat Whitecross brings Oasis's story to the big screen

When Mat Whitecross first started filming his documentary on British band Oasis, he thought he could get brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher together in one room — and he almost did.

"When we first started talking to Noel, we thought maybe the relationship between them two was thawing," he explains. "We thought they were maybe going to do a reunion tour or something but three or four weeks later, they started fighting again."

That tumultuous relationship didn't end up manifesting in one room, but it's all over the resulting film Oasis: Supersonic. But, for Whitecross, this worked out in his favour.

"It made the film easier to make," Whitecross continues. "We had over 20 hours of interviews with each brother and we created, artistically and artificially, this conversation between the two of them where we had much more control and we got deeper than if we put them in the same room.

"I felt like I was the parent, trying not to take sides and trying to control the situation!"
