Nalo Hopkinson on racial and gender diversity in science fiction literature
Canadian speculative fiction writer Nalo Hopkinson about her new story collection Falling in Love with Hominids, and her genre's challenges when it comes to racial and gender diversity.
When you think about the future, what do you see? Maybe space ships. Or androids. Or colonies on the Moon and Mars.
Nalo Hopkinson, one of Canada's foremost science fiction writers, is out to expand the way we imagine alternative worlds, and the people in them.
Her books, Brown Girl In The Ring, reflect the places she's lived, including Jamaica, Guyana and Toronto. Her latest work is a short story collection titled Falling in Love with Hominids.
She joins Shad from a studio at the University of California Riverside, where she is a professor in the department of creative writing.
